Is A Thistle A Flower?

Hello! The challenge is still flowers.  All you need to do is use
a stamp or die from Serendipity Stamps and a flower! Easy!

These are the two cards I made forgetting we needed to use flowers.
Thought I would share them anyway. I said easy but I still forgot.

Hope you week is off to a great start! The design team was asked to do an embossed resist technique, using a flower. I stamped my Thistle using versa mark ink then heat embossed with gold,  I used a dabber and dipped it in the ink and ran it over the white card stock and image.  Almost looks as though this was a solid color but it was white. I then decided to add the embossed "Blessings” I also masked off the butterfly from the stamp.

The sale this week is buy 3 and the 4th is free. You will want to take a peek at the Serendipity Stamps store, lots of new dies and stamps.
I hope you can find some time to play along, you could win 20$ off your order. Don't forget to see what the rest of the DT created.

The thistle has been the national emblem of Scotland since the reign of Alexander III (1249–1286) and was used on silver coins issued by James III in 1470. It is the symbol of the Order of the Thistle, a high chivalric order of Scotland. It is found in many Scottish symbols and as the name of several Scottish football clubs. The thistle, crowned with the Scottish crown, was the symbol of seven of the eight former Scottish Police Services (from which a new national Police Service was formed in 2013), the sole exception being the former Northern Constabulary. The thistle is also the emblem ofEncyclopædia Britannica, which originated in Edinburgh, Scotland.

  10. Even as a child, I loved the thistle flower. Mom thought it was a weed, and I suppose with all its prickers, it could be construed as such. Me, I just thought it was pretty. So is your card. Love the red background, and how you've embossed the thistle and sentiment. Really, really pretty. Bev

  19. WoW! You've been quite busy!
Love your cards, the vibrant colours and luxurious feel!
For an Anglofiel like me, your story about the thistle and it's meaning, and Scotlands history feeds my soul!! My parents in law have lived on the Scottich Hebrides Islands for a few years, (they are an Eelfishing family, so typical Dutch!!) and also on the Orkneys so we all have a special place in our hearts for Scotland!! And of course of the men, ha, ha, Like Sean Connery Daniel Craig, ha, ha. :-)
So thanks so much for sharing, although the information was not new for me, it's very thouthtful to mention and explain it in your blogpost!! Much appreciated!
I've been to Scotland several times and I could never ever get enough of it!!! It's truly magnificent and I just love the ancient castles and mountains, sigh, it's so beautiful and the Scottish are very friendly people too.
Bye and have a wonderful day,

    Marjolein

Such gorgeous colors and the gold embossing is stunning!
And I think a Thistle is a flower...
but I also have the baby child bringing me every weed known to man because it has a bloom on the end of it and therefore he claims they are "flowers"...
I've been sneezing for weeks! :)

  27. Oh it's very beautiful Marybeth! The gold embossing looks so pretty! And I love thistles and think they are pretty, but they are not very welcome in our part of the country. The farmers consider them a noxious weed :(

  33. Not sure the answer to your question, but the thistle looks awesome on the card, so I say yes. :) If dandelions are all over the place being used as flowers, why not thistles? Your other cards are fantastic, too...glad you shared them even though they weren't what you needed to make. At least now you have a great set of cards.
