I love this MIM by Melissa.
A big tip: Use Papertrey Ink vellum cardstock it's the best by far! It's so sturdy and yet you can still see through it.
I made a big smudge under this heart so I stamped it again on a vellum heart and placed it over the smudge. I always wondered how everyone did this, I learned by accident.
Seven years ago our family had heavy hearts when we learned that our GD Delaney might have Down Syndrome. ( She is the fourth child of 6 ) It was a long two weeks before we knew for sure. I always knew God gave her to the right family … but it was hard, very hard… my heart hurt for my son in law and daughter… lots of tears. Well, we were so wrong to be sad.
I know, I tell Delaney's story a lot. I think if just one person has hope and not too much sadness it will be well worth writing it again. We were given a huge gift seven years ago, I thank God every day for Delaney. She has touched more lives in her seven years . Too long to go into . I love it when she comes up to me and says” mema….I love you and you are so funny"! Her hugs are the best! When someone in her neighborhood has a bad day they just want to spend a few minutes with Delaney and they feel better. How could you not…. she naturally points out all the positive things about you.
I know everyones children and GDC are very special.
Or anything goes!
Thank you!

ReplyDeleteMaryBeth...I am new to this story!! What a blessing and...more so the blessing...as y'all see her as a gift! How lucky is she to be born into the perfect family!! The card is wonderful and big hugs to Delany on her birthday!!
ReplyDeleteYour card is very beautiful, as I'm sure your precious Delaney is, too!! I'm sure she brings much joy to all her family.
ReplyDeleteI had the privilege of teaching a Down Syndrome boy a few years ago. He was very special, and he taught me a lot! He was well loved by everyone, and he still has a special spot in my heart, many years later.
Mema...you are the best! Such a beautiful story and you can't tell it often enough.
ReplyDeleteShare and share again....I love when you do. I'm sure Delaney is an absolute doll. I sure miss the sweet hugs (and occasional kisses) from my sweet kiddos. I've worked with many children with many different diagnoses and obviously every child is different, but in my experience the children who had down syndrome were such a loving bunch. I remember each one. And it sounds like some of Delaney's best qualities are inherited from you. (P.S. Your card is wonderful. I've been wanting to try this stamping technique out but have been apprehensive for some reason...I'm so impressed you mastered it through your mistake.)
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute card for a very special granddaughter. Your story is so beautiful.

Marybeth I'm so sorry I'm so late in celebrating Delaney's special day...
ReplyDeleteplease give her a huge hug from me and Hunter and tell her Happy Birthday!
And we have had many conversations about what having a special needs child is like...
and you know my feelings and thoughts about it...
everyone should be jealous of those that know the love of a special needs child...
we are so blessed!
Hugs!! :)
A truly special card for a most special GD. Your story touched me, because I once worked for a gentleman whose son & DIL waited for just the perfect time to have a child. She was born with Down's, and at the time it was a heartbreaking thing...asking why, what can we to help her (she had a lot of other physical problems too)Her physical problems were corrected over time, and she became such a joy, such a loving child...and non-family could always know exactly why this special child came to this particular family. A true gift from the angels who watched over her. Thanks for sharing this story, and thanks for the vellum tip. I don't have any PT paper so that will become a wish list item.
